MammoSite 5-Day Targeted Radiation Therapy simplifies radiation…

MammoSite Targeted Radiation Therapy: Lumpectomy Diagram1. Lumpectomy
The cancer and some adjacent normal breast tissue are removed and a cavity is created for a MammoSite Balloon Catheter. The Cavity Evaluation Device (CED) can be used to assess the lumpectomy cavity prior to MammoSite Balloon Catheter Implantation.

MammoSite Targeted Radiation: Breast Cancer Treatment2. Placement
Uninflated MammoSite Balloon Catheter is inserted in the lumpectomy cavity. Placement is done either at time of lumpectomy or in a post-lumpectomy procedure in the office or in the hospital.

Reimbursement is available for post-lumpectomy placement.

MammoSite Targeted Radiation: Breast Cancer Treatment3. Treatment
After the MammoSite Balloon Catheter is inflated with saline/contrast to position the tissue, the radiation source is advanced into the catheter and radiation therapy is delivered as directed by the treatment plan over 5 days, 2 treatments per day.

After each treatment, the seed is removed. No radiation remains in the breast in between treatments.

After the final treatment, the MammoSite Balloon Catheter is easily removed.

The above information provides an overview of MammoSite 5-Day Targeted Radiation Therapy. Refer to the Instructions For Use in the MammoSite Radiation Therapy System Instruction Manual for complete information regarding use of the device and all warnings, contraindications, and safety information.
